The Pinky Dog Solidarity Project is a community effort, shared by those who knew Pinky and/or his story. It is a solidarity project with animals in El Salvador. The project also brings educational efforts to promote environmental consciousness and responsibility.
Our main activities are all about informing the public how to help in order to generate solidarity actions that would benefit shelters, low income families and abandoned or neglected animals (companion animals and wildlife) in El Salvador.
We try to engage in solidarity efforts to support spayed/neuter campaigns, and provide veterinary care for street dogs and cats, as well as pet food for families with limited resources.
The Pinky Project is named after "PINKY" a Pekinese-poodle dog who travelled back and forth with his family, between Toronto and El Salvador, during the years of 1991 - 2008. His family had migrated to Canada in the early 80’s as refugees fleeing the war in El Salvador. Once the Peace Accords were signed in 1992, Pinky’s family returned to El Salvador to join social justice movements. It is when, in 1992 that Pinky was born in the San Jacinto neighbourhood, in San Salvador. Pinky was an exceptional dog, who helped his human family heal wounds of war and exile.
El Salvador needs to achieve a peaceful society. We believe it can be achieved! We also believe that companion animals play an important role in the healing process of the Salvadoran society and anywhere else. Communities are increasingly being more responsive to the calls for action from neighbours, animal shelters, rescue activists and environmental organisations.
We also believe that torture, cruelty and exploitation should be eradicated from our daily personal and community lives, both in El Salvador and everywhere else in the world. With shared efforts and solidarity we can make it happen! Extensive animal agriculture is cruel and highly polluting. Environmental degradation is constant. Animal abuse, traffic and exploitation is generalised and the State has done very little to educate people, communities and to enforce environmental laws.
We are naming this community initiative 🐾 The Pinky Dog Solidarity Project . It is introduced to the Canadian public and anybody else across our beautiful planet who would like to know how to channel resources, connect with reliable community efforts and truthful causes in El Salvador.
This community effort is to honour Pinky's memory, because he was a beautiful toy-dog, with character, enthusiastic every time he met another dog, cat, rabbit, turtle, parrot or a red worm from our family compost. Pinky loved all kinds of animals, small and big.
